1. Overview

Dalen (Llyfrau) Cyf will publish works in Irish under our Dalen Éireann imprint. We will acknowledge and address any inexperience or lack of knowledge in the company’s editorial structure of the language, culture, heritage and social milieu relating to the publication of titles in Irish by taking positive action to ensure our works meet the highest editorial standards expected in whichever genre we may publish in the Irish language.

We will specifically contract, where relevant and applicable, the following expert services from acknowledged, established, respected and appropriate contributors to ensure the editorial excellence of our works in Irish:

We will pair as necessary authors and editors as Editorial Teams who will report to and advise the company’s Publishing Editor, and to answer the company’s editorial brief.

The company will also ensure works are read by third party proofreaders prior to publication and that any queries, comments and suggestions are relayed to the Editorial Team for comment and action if applicable. We will also instruct readers where necessary to prepare independent reports on commissioned works in order to satisfy ourselves of the
standard and quality of the material we publish.

2. Tone and voice

Each work will be designated a desired tone and voice to which Editorial Teams will be directed to work and deliver. Such direction will affect the approach to language used in the work, its linguistic and grammatical correctness and any accepted deviation from general rules and standards. Deviation will only be used for creative effect and where any such deviation can be editorially justified.

 3. Reference texts

With specific consideration of the target readership of the work in question, Editorial Teams will be equipped with expertise and judgement to apply relevant grammatical and orthographical rules and styles to their work, in general keeping with the standards outlined in An Caighdeán, and will, in case of uncertainty, disagreement or diverse opinion, refer to standard reference and benchmark texts as necessary, including:
